RN Unit Manager

Located in: Saint Petersburg, FL

Shore Acres  Care Center, ​a 120 bed Skilled Nursing Facility in St Petersburg, FL is hiring a RN Unit Manager.  

As an RN Unit Manager you will be responsible for the coordination of administrative, clinical and supervisory function for a defined resident population/unit.

 Essential Duties:

  • 24 hour accountability for nursing services provided on unit. On call as scheduled or needed.
  • Directly supervises the nursing staff and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Directly responsible for the provision of an environment where excellent nursing care may be delivered.
  • Is a vital link between doctors, residents, families, nursing staff and management.
  • Acts as a resource to residents, families, nursing staff and management.
  • Update care plans as necessary according to Federal and State regulations; coordinates with IDCPT, and families for care plan meetings. Communicates with IDCPT on regular basis for positive patient outcomes and goals.
  • Conducts performance appraisals for staff on assigned unit(s).
  • Stagger shifts to meet with all 3 shifts for the week.
  • Follow progressive disciplinary process with staff. Is consistent and fair in disciplinary process.
  • Determine and implement appropriate remedial actions and rewards when indicated.
  • Speaks positively about facility and organization.
  • Is a team player and assists in facilitating positive working relationship between departments.
  • Understands Federal and State regulations and ensures that the regulations are met. Maintains nursing unit and assists Administrator in assuring facility is in compliance with all regulations.
  • Conducts monthly nursing staff meeting on the unit to provide communication and ongoing education and training of nursing staff.
  • Involved in the interviewing, mentoring and training of the staff on the unit.
  • Serve as designated supervising nurse in the absence of DON and ADON including obtaining emergency medications and related supplies, directing emergency response to power failures and natural disasters, and managing visitor and resident emergencies.
  • Serves as resource to other departments in the absence of other administrative personnel, including informing department heads of decisions made in their absence.
  • Serves as consultant to other nursing personnel in making clinical and administrative decisions including clinical situations related to deterioration, residents’ condition, injury, etc. and disciplinary action for nursing employees.
  • Monitor quality of nursing care to all residents by working through/with the Unit Nurse including making frequent rounds to ensure quality care is being administered and developing plan of action. Participate in Facility Environmental Rounds.
  • Complete audit(s) for continuous quality improvement on an on-going basis. Address any issues and report findings in Quality Assurance Process Improvement meeting.
  • Assist in staffing coordination, including evaluating current staff schedule and making necessary changes to existing and upcoming shifts.
  • Provide security for resident valuables deposited with facility outside typical office hours
  • Assist in establishment, implementation, and maintenance of communication between shifts and units to facilitate positive working relationships.
  • Assist in staffing facility nursing units. Is able to perform duties of floor nurse as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by DON, ADON, or Administrator.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a Licensed Nurse (RN) in good standing and meet all applicable Federal and State licensure requirements.
  • 3+ years of clinical and management experience in a long term care or comparable environment
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures and laws, regulations and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and exercise independent judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Skill in accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and priorities to achieve desired goals
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of position
  • Quality assurance programming experience highly desirable
